It is with great sadness that we share with you the loss of our friend and member Charles M. “Charlie” Ray, Jr. on Wednesday, February 19, 2020.

Charlie Ray

Born in Cranford, NJ on November 22, 1937, Charlie was a journalist early on in his career until beginning what would become his life’s passion.  Education and instruction.  It was his love of teaching that brought Charlie to the LECTU.  Charlie was a member of Trout Unlimited as well as the FFF.  He was an FFF certified fly casting instructor, and for many years Charlie volunteered his time with the LECTU to run our annual Spring Outing casting course as well as provide free casting instruction to anyone who came.  Charlie resided in Plymouth, IN with his wife Sue Ann.  He spent over 35 summers working at the Culver Military Academy Summer camps as a Division Commander, Program Director, Director of Tennis and Fly Fishing Instructor.  In addition, Charlie taught fly fishing for many of the area Park Departments.  He is survived by his loving wife, Sue Ann, sons Kenneth and Kevin, and daughters Kathleen and Kellie.

Thank you Charlie for all that you have done for the LECTU and the sport of fly fishing.  You not only made us better fly fishermen and women, you made us better people because of the person you were.  Rest In Peace, Dear Friend.
