The minutes from the May meeting were approved.
Water levels have been low and clear making fishing challenging. Mike did have pretty good success on
June 19th netting 15 trout. Water temperatures have been ranging from 62 – 69 degrees. Wayne had purchased the trophy bass trip with Josh Lantz at our spring outing. He went on Sunday and reported that they caught some bass but no trophies.
Don reported a balance of $10,587.96. He also opened a 35 month CD for $2,000. Don also reported that he received a Thank You note from Mary Smith for our contribution to their organization.
It was decided that the summer newsletter will be in August.
CR 43 Project
The CR 43 project is set for this Saturday, June 16th. We will meet at the project site at 8:30 AM. All permits are in place. SJRVFF will provide lunch. Court Walker will bring the drinks for LECTU. ECC will release their trout in the afternoon.
Fly Casting Class
The fly casting class for Intermediate/advanced was held at the Elkhart Conservation Club this past Saturday. There were 10 participants. Everyone agreed that Charlie Ray did an outstanding job in conducting the class.
Brown Trout Stocking
The stocking went well. Most felt that the trout looked good and were bigger than what was expected. Chris Miller thought some of the trout that were stocked at his place were not in as good shape as expected.
The date of the Riverfest is August 18th. We will have a booth and help the Park Dept. with a couple of their activities. Don will get a check for $50 to Leonard as a donation.
4-H Fishing Club
Mike, Brandon and Lee put on a casting clinic for the 4-H Fishing club on Tuesday June 5 th. It appeared that the kids enjoyed it. One of our reels got stepped on and broken. Mike will see if it can be replaced by LL Bean.
LECTU River Work Days
Scheduled dates are July 28, August 4 and September 15. Please note that we changed the previous date from August 11 to August 4 due to the schedule for the Kid’s Fishing Derby. Mike also suggested adding another work date of June 30 to cut the trail through Hoover’s woods. Sam Hoover requested that we call him prior to any work dates on his property.
Annual Spring Outing Recap
Don reported that he checked with Cardinal Busses to see about renting a bus for the river tour at our 2013 Spring Outing. They would give us a special price of $300. Normal pricing would be $500.
Kid’s Fishing Derby
The date this year will be August 11th. We are again being asked to help with the judging.
Court reported that he spoke with Tom Enright about the River Watch program. Tom stated that he was behind on this and plans a sampling activity on July 12th from 6:30 to 8:30 PM.
Jim Phillips led a discussion on trout mortality and possible alternatives to reduce that mortality.
