The minutes from the April meeting were approved.
Water levels have been low and clear. Mike reported 69 degree temps a week or two ago but has since come back down to 62 degrees.
The DNR will be releasing additional rainbows May 12 – 13 and again May 26 – 27. The Little Elkhart release will be at Bonneyville Mill.
Profits from our spring outing and Adopt-A-Trout raffle was $1,700. Last year it was $2,500. The difference was that we purchased 10 TFO rods and used 4 of them this year. This means that we will have 6 more rods for the future that came out of this year’s expense. We also had a $300 speaker fee that we did not have in the past.
The winner of the Winston rod was Bill Cleary from Indianapolis.
We had ordered 12 hats for the committee with the spring outing logo. We were short 3 hats. It was decided that we also give hats to our fly tying volunteers. Lee will order those hats and get them distributed.
We need the summer newsletter to go out after we stock the brown trout and before the CR 43 project so that we can include the specifics on the CR 43 project.
CR 43 Project
The CR 43 project is set for June 16th. We will meet at the project site at 8:30 AM. All permits are in place.
Fly Casting Class
The fly casting class for Intermediate/advanced will be June 9th. Riverbend Park is not available for that date. Lee stated that we could hold it at Ox Bow Park in Elkhart but he is still checking other alternatives. He will email out specifics. Those signed up are Don Fiwek, Bob Hagin, Court Walker, Brandon Rasler, Penny Myers, Bill Myers, Pete Lehman, Tom Cripe and Lee Troyer. The fee for the class is $10. If it is held at Ox Bow Park, there is a $2 entrance fee.
Brown Trout Stocking
We will meet at McDonalds in Middlebury at 8:00 AM on Friday, May 11. Cost of the trout will be $2.92/ea plus transportation. Volunteers are Don, Bob, Pete, Tom, Chris and Lee.
The permits are in place and Mike requested that we text him when the stocking is complete.
The date of the Riverfest is August 18th.
LECTU River Work Days
Scheduled dates are July 28, August 11 and September 15. Sam Hoover requested that we call him prior
to any work dates on his property. Mike would like to add another work date for late June to cut the trail through the woods.
Annual Spring Outing Recap
All agreed that the outing went pretty smoothly. There were 51 lunch tickets sold and not everyone bought a lunch ticket. Bob Hagin will send out thank you letters to the donors. Suggestions and notes for next year:
• Chris Miller said that having Wayne help with the stream tour was a big help. In addition, having only one tour allowed the tour guides to also participate in the outing.
• We will need another table for raffles next year.
• Four pop-up tents were needed
• Steve Mack did a good job announcing
• There was difficulty in seeing the slides for Ann Miller’s program on the screen due to the ambient light. Maybe we could put up tarps around one end of the pavilion next year.
• We could use the before/after pictures from Dave Arrington in the future.
• If there are enough kids attending, maybe we should have a kid’s raffle.
Mike received a letter from a teacher from the Warsaw Career Center wanting to do a Trout in the Classroom class.
Lee received a call from Marc Gantz about putting on a program for the 4-H Fishing Club on June 5 th. There are 50 kids in the club and approximately 30 attend their meetings. Marc thought that maybe we could use the pond on the new property at the Goshen Fairgrounds to do some interactive fly casting. Mike stated that we will pursue this. Volunteers thus far are Mike, Brandon and Lee. Lee will follow up with Marc.
Next Meeting –June 13, 2012 at 7:00 PM at the Riverbend Park.
Lee Troyer – Secretary
Please note the June meeting will be at Riverbend Park.
There will be no meeting in July.
